Feeling Safe
Maybe you have marched through your rhythms of life behind the Lord's shield a long time?
Has the Lord held your shield of faith, pulled you safely into its protection?
Behind the shield of faith is worn the breastplate of righteousness. It is faith that both leads to and then protects righteousness.
It is through first wearing the helmet of salvation that the breastplate of righteousness is retrieved from heaven's war-chest, and the shield of faith stepped behind.
The necessity for Heaven's armory upon earth rises far above any Christian's imagination.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12)
My shield is owned by my Lord. He holds it for me. This shield is always there, immovable as it is invisible, all covering and impregnable. None can wrest the shield from my Lord's hands.
Indeed, our shield belongs to the Lord, our king to the Holy One of Israel. (Psalm 89:18)
It is the war-torn humility of weakness that jerks me behind His shield. I then find shelter as least in God's tribe of the lost, the least, the last and the lonely. For, I have learnt that the battle is too tiring, the enemy more powerful than I, and I am not who I thought I was.
This shield He holds before me when I make Him my refuge. It is in a broken spirit that He does not despise and a much needed devotion that I step behind His shield. There I hear each day:
I Am your shield today and forever...
... and I know I am safe.
