Faith crosses floods.

Soul Snack 73/10 ... Crossing Jordan - A

Three short days previously  the Israelites had been instructed to cross the Jordan River. A few damp steps and they would be in the promised land. (Josh 1:11) This land Canaan, was to be God's place of freedom, betterment and prosperity for His own people. It was their new home. No slavery here, only satisfaction and a flowing of milk and honey.

Yet the normally minuscule Jordan River was in flood. A surging torrent of water is surely a daunting obstacle. A river in flood can generate much fear. When did the Israelites find out it was in flood? They probably already knew. (see Josh 3:15)

I can picture the anguish on Joshua's face as he frantically questioned the Lord ... "Why do we have to cross now Lord, can we wait until the flood recedes?" A silent Heaven would have left no doubt as to the answer.

For the Israelites to secure their better place, enjoy their inheritance and receive God's promises, they had to step into a flood. (To walk through a flood then, is to find freedom.)

Many will see a 'flood' and retreat. Others may step into the 'flood', but feel the cool and hear the roar around them and retreat. Still a few more, will look around and see God's provisions as the raging torrents are restrained. These are the ones who find release, refreshment and repair on the other side of the river.

To receive His best for me, I must first step into and then walk through the flood.

"Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap ..." (Josh 3:15-16a)
