Enemies are Good
From an unknown but understanding source:
God allows enemies to rise up to mirror our own behavior. If we sincerely seek God, He will show us some things about ourselves we were too busy to see, or too stubborn to admit to.
God loves a contrite heart. Cast down pride and let it no longer be your finest friend, but see it for what it truly is - your fiercest enemy.
Remember:
Humility is becoming what you have despised and realizing that you were wrong. ~ Michael Cartwright
It is my enemy that disrupts my scaffolding. I erect it in pride, and then if humbled - dismantle it in correcting pain.
Catholic French Archbishop Francis Fenelon (1651-1715) long ago admitted:
Accept both comfort and correction from the hand of God. This is all very easy to say to you, yet I must confess that I cringe at the very thought of the Cross coming to work in me.
Though we may experience victories upon our daily spiritual journeys, we each also know what it is to trip and fall. Rejoice in that humbling fall, for then it is one less trip for you tomorrow. And, one step closer to God today.
For this is what the high and exalted One says—
he who lives forever, whose name is holy:
“I live in a high and holy place,
but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly
and to revive the heart of the contrite." (Isaiah 57:15)
