Dancing Around Our Own Gods
Daily man dances around his own gods#, the works of his hands, those creations from his mind.
These fine figures of his craftsmanship are mute, blind and topple so easily.
Yet still he looks to them for wisdom, solace and interruption from the troubles of this life.
They offer nothing but distraction and only further hardships will abound from the dance. These false gods can give no solutions past a mere momentary panacea. And still man returns blind to their hot coals.
There is nothing new with this behavior. Since expulsion from Eden, man has celebrated his own work and ignored the works of the one true God.
As in the days of Elijah, so too this day.
Then the prophets of Baal called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made. (1 Kings 18:26)
It is fruitless to dance around mankind's gods. Whatever they promise to give they are impotent to deliver.
The impulsive and simple-hearted Peter was correct when he answered Jesus:
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You alone have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:68-69)
It is mankind's implanted nature to worship, yet worship that is true and pleasing to God is not found at the feet of impotent idols, but only in He who holds the words of eternal life.

'The age of miracles has not passed because Jesus, the miracle-worker has not changed; Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever'. ~ T. L. Osborn
#These false gods are what we turn to when we no longer want to feel despair. Or, they are our scaffolds that keep us vertical each day with no attention to the Lord.
