Christianity - the Unicorn!
Unicorns have stolen human imaginations since the 6th century BC. A horse with a spiralling horn even variously appears in the Bible. This mythical creature is honored best as the symbol of Scotland.
Christianity is now as the unicorn. It is not believed in, Jesus did not rise and it is not truth.
Christianity is now diluted to a well-meaning mythology of do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Upon the many tapestries of myth Christianity has been reduced to a ruinous historic formula that exerts no claims, and offers no promise. It is not permitted to cause offence, let alone claim truth.
'Emptied of its power' Christianity has seen love wrongly re-defined as tolerance.
Love has now become the justifier to all manner of sin.
Yet Christianity is true, and remains so.
A malicious far-flung event adorned Calvary with the blood-red stain of injustice - the Messiah was murdered.
Jesus' crucifixion was bracketed by an outspoken hatred of the masses before His death and a soldier's stabbing spear after His death.
BUT this dead Savior rose and is alive today.
Jesus still brooks no competitors, still screams forgiveness for the fools, and still correctly claims exclusivity in the salvation stakes.
Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
I know the resurrection is a fact, and Watergate proved it to me. How? Because 12 men testified they had seen Jesus raised from the dead, then they proclaimed that truth for 40 years, never once denying it. Every one was beaten, tortured, stoned and put in prison. They would not have endured that if it weren't true. Watergate embroiled 12 of the most powerful men in the world-and they couldn't keep a lie for three weeks. You're telling me 12 apostles could keep a lie for 40 years? Absolutely impossible. ~ Chuck Colson
BUT the truth remains, it is no myth - rejection of the eternal God is still punishable by eternal death.
Easter both proves this and removes it.
We may deny the blood on the Cross...
We may empty the cauldron of punishment...
We may dissolve the reality of sin...
Daily the world dallies with death, foolishly yet comfortably ignorant. As for Jesus - so too for each human; all will have their day of reckoning.
Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. (Psalm 39:4)
Lord, scour my soul afresh and show me my heart that sins. Reveal to me the seeds of sin I sow, that I may sin no more nor reap its harvests. Forgive me please I pray this day. AMEN
