A chilling threat to love...
Because of the increase of wickedness the love of most will grow cold. (Matthew 24:12)
The days now upon each and every Christian carry the chilling threat of our love growing cold. Love grows cold when opposition multiplies.
Within the final twenty-four hours prior to Jesus' death (John's Gospel chapters 14-17) He devoted much teaching to His disciples. He equipped them for the bitter days ahead. Jesus understood these times would drive believing men and women to shrink back and lose.
King Solomon, nearly a millennia prior to our good Lord heralded:
Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say 'I find no pleasure in them'. (Ecclesiastes 12:1)
Jesus is desperately keen that His sheep do not wander astray. He was very soon to be betrayed, tortured and crucified - still Jesus' thoughts were for the perseverance and well-being of His followers, not the torture tearing His soul and body. (This has not changed.)
Jesus advised the three timeless (and simple) habits of those who choose to be steadfast:
- stay with Him (John 15:4-5)
- obey Him, which is the expression of love (John 15:10), and
- listen to His counseling Holy Spirit before and through the hard times (John 16:13)
Jesus has chosen YOU out of this world; it is both His intention and equipping to keep you that way.
Settle first in your mind this day - before the Cancel Culture and Woke demands smother your faith, or smash your trust in Jesus.
The Last Word:
An immovable faith is the harbor of the living soul within.
