A Torchlight in Darkness
God's mercies He still delivers fresh and free every morning.
For the mornings when early light filters through the panes but does not quite warm the soul:
scan your history, recall the goodness of your Lord to you. His never changing being is your guarantor that yesterday's grace continues into your new day.
The seeking of His strength and the looking to His face (He does not turn His back to you) proves a needy and truth-filled humility the Lord will not oppose, only honor.
For He has not despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one; He has not hidden His face from him but has listened to his cry for help. (Psalm 22:24)
Worship God during the long night of the soul for He inhabits the praises of His saints. Give the soul no permission to quarrel with God, for from praise God is felt. The light of praise heartens the soul.
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. (Psalm 22:3)
That soul who chooses to faithfully raise his heart to God in the darkness, forges a resolve that will not be easily weakened. He has become strong to walk steady and unshakeable with the Lord as his darkness dispels and the light returns.
Loiter in praise on any troubling trek to heaven.
