A Parable of Pride & Prayer

The Lord, sitting on His throne, one day gazed down to earth. As He sat there He chose a particularly diligent servant for a task. The task would be most difficult. Soon the servant began his task, accompanied with his confident efforts. After expending considerable energy, he stopped - seeing his failure. Finally the servant stooped and then knelt, he enquired of his Lord:

why did I fail, you knew I had few skills for this task?

The good Lord replied:

I gave you a task, not for the purpose of the task but for you to learn and understand yourself and look within. In your self-assessment you did not seek My equipping. Success was merely a prayer away.

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be of lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud. (Proverbs 16:18-19)

The Last Word:

Pride is becoming what you have despised and realizing you were wrong. ~ Michael Cartwright
