A Parable of a Young Man#
This anonymous tale is taught with more than a fine hint of understanding life and its perspectives.
There was a youth wild and free. His foolish indulgences piled upon him until he realised he had hurt himself endlessly. He lived in a very poor mastery of himself. The product of his sins had caught up with him.
This youth was now at the very end of his tether.
Finally he cried out to Heaven, I have a too heavy cross to bear.
With great love and a large measure of generosity the good Lord replied, my son if you can't bear the weight just place your cross inside this room. Then open that other door and pick out any cross you wish.
This youth overflowed in a joy filled relief. He uttered a hearty thank you Lord, and rushed obediently towards the closed door indicated. He deposited his heavy cross amidst countless others.
Upon entering the next door he saw too many crosses to count, with much variance in size - some so large that the top of them was hidden to the naked eye.
As he gazed in wonder he spotted a tiny cross leaning against the wall, I'd like that one Lord!
In the softest and kindest of tones the Lord replied, My son that is the cross you just placed in this room.
Be at rest O my soul for the Lord has been good to you. (Psalm 116:7)
