A Corvette Parable#
Capture in your mind's eye if you will; could you even imagine driving your local freeway and an early model (unmodified - 1953) pristine Polo White Corvette eases alongside in the adjacent lane?
What would you expect it to do?
(I would expect it to overtake me, especially as I'm only steering a Volkswagen beetle. My wearied 25 horsepower bug no competition for the elderly 150 horsepower 'Vette.)
You glance over your shoulder, it is still there. You drive further down the freeway with a growing consciousness of this collectable Chevvy still beside. You begin to be pleased about its presence. There is no threat, only perfect parallel travel. The Corvette's driver glances across with warm eyes, he smiles as its shadow flows through your door window. That's all - nothing more, but this Corvette has no intentions of moving past you.
The Corvette neither accelerates nor decelerates, it just sits exactly there and its intentions do not and will not change.
The meaning:
those who are in Christ Jesus now have His original purity running neatly with them, shadowing their every mile.
Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?” I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. (Revelation 7:13-14)
