A Cable Car Christmas
23 August 2023 delivered a cable car ordeal to Pakistan, across a remote valley.
What began as a normal cable car ride across a Pakistani valley turned into a frightful ordeal. Shortly after the ride began, two supporting cables snapped, leaving eight passengers—including school children—suspended hundreds of feet in the air. The situation sparked an arduous twelve-hour rescue operation by the Pakistani military, who used zip-lines, helicopters, and more to rescue the passengers.
Those well-trained rescuers are to be commended, but their work pales in comparison to the eternal work of Jesus. (Marvin Williams)
For to us is born a child, to us a Son is given ... the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)
That first Christmas began a rescue that remains to this day. But, our Lord's sojourn is not an applauded twelve-hour horror tale with many watching skilled professionals.
Jesus was not trained, never had participated in a rescue mission and found no welcome. Punished by His own 'drowning' humanity He sought to rescue, no 'fairy tale' here.
The real difference between mankind's rescue and Jesus' rescue is that men know the value of the body but Jesus knows the value of the soul.
We each must grasp that Christmas is the brightest pointer to a new, free and perfect world without end. A rescue not to be ignored or lost, or traded for trinkets or treasure.
The Last Word:
JESUS WAS BORN BECAUSE MANKIND HAS LITTLE SENSE OF HIS SOUL'S ETERNAL VALUE. JESUS DIDN'T.
