The Good Portion ~ B
Sorrow is a grace to the human spirit, so often the spiritual foundation of the soul. Hardship increases the willingness of a man to seek the Throne of Grace.
The man of sorrow becomes a man of gain.
It is from the brushing of thorns, the trek across fiery deserts, or the unwitting sip of a poisoned chalice that a man learns all his portions are in and from the Lord. Then the Lord calls upon to audit his heart and its reasons.
This school of hard knocks teaches that every liniment and every salve, that every dalliance and every duty, that every possession and every friendship cannot mend a broken heart.
The path to true repair always leads straight to the Lord's lap.
The Lord alone must be a man's first portion if a man is ever to find his fill.
To the rejected and the neglected, to broken and the burdened the Lord would single you out and ask:
You are My portion, I have loved you always - I want to be yours!
Jesus frees a man from all the portions of pretence that promise life but lead to death, for:
Christ is a man's reward.
A man's capacity for today is increased when Christ is chosen as his first portion.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. (Psalm 73:26)
O Lord place a stone in my shoe until I walk with You as my portion, my sights fixed on You. AMEN
