The Church MUST Worship
Church cannot be the focus of our life, only Jesus has the authority to claim this. ~ Maggie Woychik
In our headlong evangelical rush for evangelism, we have missed too much blessing and rarely learned the powerful bending of the knee.
Who would wrestle with God as Jacob or lay hold of Him as Hannah?
Five unexpected reflections to catch up on lost time:
1) Why did God rescue His tortured people from Egypt?
That they may worship Him. (Exodus 3:12)
2) Why did Jesus rise early to meet with His Father?
Because worship precedes work. (Mark 1:35)
3) Why did Jesus speak to His disciples at dawn?
Because worship equips work. (John 21)
4) Why did Jesus consult His Father first?
Because worship guides work. (Luke 6:12-15, John 5:16-30)
5) Why did Jesus take a whip to the temple twice, at the beginning and end of His ministry?
Because prayer trumps pennies. (John 2:16, Luke 19:45-46)
Many a work has been hindered through lack of prayer. How many have been entirely missed?
Doctrine and duty, ritual and rosters hold precious little value unless worship is first.
Is not worship upon earth a mere taste, a pleasant morsel, of a Christian's forever work?
Yes, Lord, walking in the way of Your laws, we wait for you; Your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. My soul yearns for You in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for You. (Isaiah 26:8-9a)
We may work and perish, but we cannot worship and perish.
