SKIMMING GRACE ~ B ... 'The Humble Author'
A jaded, humble or accurate Mark Twain (maybe all) summarily dismissed humankind on countless occasions - one such dismissal was:
The human race is a race of cowards; and I am not only marching in that procession but carrying a banner.
Humans are beggars in clothes of various quality. The loudest and poorest of all clothing is pride; it bemoans weakness, covers sin, and flees the truth.
Humans' have little real strength as they scratch for the crumbs of life, or pluck at the questionable fruits of its opportunities. Adam first empowered this trend:
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (Genesis 3:6)
Adam's strength in Eden was around him, it was not within him (pride). His strength came because Adam stood in purity and walked with God. In his treasonous weakness Adam exchanged a feast for a famine, a divine friendship for enmity as he weakly watered disobedience into life.
It is only as we first admit our real weaknesses that are within, we will ever be able to stand in true strength from without. This confession is only enabled by Divine grace to a humbled soul.
It is grace alone that means we are not all washed up by sin.
Today's Soul Snippet:
God does not make that which He does not want.
