Remember Lot's Wife
Soul Snack 7/14 ...
The pre-dawn grey was simply a shadow over all who remained in Sodom. Only four souls fled as dawn's judgement crept across a condemned Sodom.
Through the sunrise a wearisome Lot, his wife and two daughters hastened from the Divine threat of being swept away.
As soon as the angels had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!” (Gen 19:17)
With God's instructions clear Sodom was put behind their backs (well almost).
Apparently they took no possessions, luggage bearers, carts, cattle or slaves - just themselves. (When judgement arrives there is no time for dalliance and only the foolish will delay).
Yet in a tragic episode of mind-numbing disobedience Lot's wife glanced back as fire and sulfur rained from heaven. She chanced a glance to what she had lost, to what was her life. In an instant her entire past and future was GONE. Lot's wife became a pillar of salt. (It is tough to imagine that a pillar of salt would be vertical too long).
But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. (Gen 19:26)
When God is starting something new for you, casting your eyes rearwards to where you are leaving is to lose all you are gaining.
When the past is held onto, the future crumbles. (see also Luke 17:32)
Today's Soul Snippet:
"Humility is becoming what you have despised and then realising that you were wrong."
