A Max Factor Jesus?

Cosmetics exaggerate features to a BIGGER place in an observer's eye.

Did Jesus color the Bible in cosmetics or have I just read the Bible BIG?

Maybe:

  • Jesus knew the place of boldness so He applied eye-liners to His sermons' edge.
  • Jesus saw the large crowds so He slipped lipstick across His Beatitudes.
  • Jesus was given to verbal cosmetics to maximize some of His words above the remainder.

Jesus usually gave a restrained and gentle approach in His conduct. (NOTE - Even His two zealous cleansing the temple incidents were not about anger.)

Jesus would speak strongly to the troublesome and gently to the troubled.

But, was He ever given to exaggeration?

I am a wholly simple believer. I to this day, accept His words as wholly true.

So may I politely repeat - was Jesus ever given to exaggeration, the gilding of the lily or the application of Max Factor that some thoughts should shine?

  • “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him." (Mark 11:22-23)
  • "If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13)
  • "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (John 14:12)

YES - the above verses are the exact words of Jesus. Ponder them. 

Are they not the most impossible promises of all time?

Troublesomely they stretch any envelope of faith.

So yet again:

  • Did Jesus exaggerate when teaching them?
  • Did Jesus tell lies?
  • Was Jesus liberally applying loud cosmetics to hollow words. They look great, sound true but are empty behind the verbal facade?
  • Was Jesus just kidding with mere hyperboles of punchy rhetoric?

"NO" can be the only answer for a believer in the supernatural, life giving, death defeating Son of God.

He who healed the blind, lifted the lame and called life into the dead, not only did the impossible but promised we could too.

Faith does not believe God for the inevitable but the impossible.

So - have I just read the Bible BIG?
