1 'Root of Evil' Bible Misquote
Playwright, author and political commentator George Bernard Shaw causes me to wonder, did he 'tongue-in-cheek' rewrite Scripture in the following quote?
Lack of money is the root of all evil.
Money captivates, it sets feet to bondage, chains hearts and posts souls to hell. Or does it? Is money evil?
Money, in and of itself is morally neutral, merely a tool that enables transactions. Yet through a sleight of inaccuracy money has become known as the root of all evil. This is a misquoting of Scripture:
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:10)
Contrary to both George Bernard Shaw and poor memory, the truth of Scripture remains:
the love of money is the root of all evil.
The content of our heart the Lord weighs, not the content of our pocket.
(P.S. - Scripture explains quite clearly that pride is the root of all evil. See Ezekiel 28:14)
