The Rod & the Staff

Soul Snack 153/11 ... The Rod & the Staff

Is each day a walk through the valley of the shadow of death as sin entices amidst all that further distracts?

Does the shadow of death fall across your paths and dull the light of each day as enemies prevail?

When your soul screams and your heart aches, when tears are yet again your closest friend and you plead with Heaven for release, Jesus still has nail-scarred hands ready for you. Obscuring the wound on His right palm is an outstretched staff for you to lean upon. In His left hand a shepherd's crook obscures the scar -- it is to gently steer you back to safety should you ignorantly wander (sheep are prone to do this).

Amidst such enemies to your body, soul and spirit Jesus steadfastly refuses to leave you unattended -- it's His good intention also to give you a feast while your enemies will only ever intend a famine.

His care is greater than any enemy's hate, His love is stronger than any enemy's power and His will is superior to any enemy's plans.

He has a rod for your support and staff for your safety - these He still uses today for you. He has a supply of rods and staffs that is always sufficient - because His rods and His staffs are never out of stock.

Even though I walk
   through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
   for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
   they comfort me.You prepare a table before me
   in the presence of my enemies. (Ps 23:4- 5a)
